In summer 2010, I bought a stunning candle—a bust of the Buddha, pearl white and 12" tall by 12" wide at the base. With his head bowed and his eyes closed, the Buddha is peace. The following New Year, I created this blog to share something beautiful every week until this candle has burned through. Finding the time to meditate to burn this candle is hard, let alone photographing/ posting on a weekly basis. But I have made this vow to myself, because beauty persists in this world, no matter what.

The Snow Introduces Us Anew
On Thursday morning I stepped out of our garage into the first snowfall of the winter.
Although the snowfall was minimal by New England standards the snow itself was heavy, weighing down the branches of our Japanese Maple.
By Saturday, the snow still clung to the bare branches, despite the persistent rain. As I walked along the street, I looked up into the trees and found stunning abstract designs, along with hidden messages that I will never decode but that comforted me nonetheless.
The snow introduces us anew to nature, and the resulting silence between us speaks wonders.
